This guide will go through the equipment I like to used when making boilies at home. This is a rough guide to what I use and why, however many parts can be replaced with similar tools (or your hands and some guess work).
Mixing Equipment
Large Mixing Bowl
A mixing bowl is used for combining the dry and wet mixes, creating paste balls.
Measuring Jug
Simply used for measuring up wet mix and breaking up eggs.
Measuring Spoon
For adding small measures of additives wet and dry.
Syringes
Perfect for adding exact amount of wet additives.
Weighing Scales
100% needed for following a recipe exactly and when creating a recipe.
Sieve
To make sure you don’t have any lumps of dry mix in the mixture that may not take in any liquid.
Mixing fork
Used for mixing the mix through.
Rolling Equipment
Boilie Rolling Table
A necessity really for the amount of bait you need to roll for carp fishing (unless you are just making hook baits) these come in a number of different sizes.
Sausage Gun or Sausage Roller
A Sausage gun is the easiest tool when using a Boilie rolling table, however a sausage roller can be used but is harder to maintain the same consistency throughout.
Knife
For cutting the mix to help it fit in the sausage gun and used for cutting sausages to correct length
Cooking Equipment
Saucepan
Used for boiling baits.
Steamer
Used to steam bait, some people believe this allows the bait to retain more flavours.
Drying Equipment
Air Dry Bags
Essential for drying out baits, on the bank and at home.
Kitchen Towel
Used to dry baits as soon as they come out of the water/ steamer.
Freezer Bags
Used to split up the bait ready to be frozen.
Extra
Some extra tools I use for making bait in bulk.
Mesh tray
This can be perfect for lots of things, from air drying to just processing the bait in its different parts.
Paint Mixing Drill Bit (and drill)
The paint mixer drill bit is perfect for mixing up dry mix and saves a lot of time.
Large bucket
A large bucket is perfect for mixing and storing large quantities of dry mix and the paint mixer works great inside it.
Chip Fat Fryer / Water Boiler
A cheap chip fat fryer is perfect for boiling a large amount of bait at once, a water boiler can also be used for this but you don’t get the extra mesh sieve.
Automatic Mixer
This is a simple way to mix your dry mix with the wet mix in larger quantities at a better consistency.
